Disability Liaison Officer Program

Service overview

The Disability Liaison team at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne are health professionals passionate about reducing access barriers for people with disability to health care. We assist people with disability, their families and carers to access services at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

A Disability Liaison Officer can support individuals, and their healthcare team, to safe, accessible and more inclusive health care. They can assist to identify barriers and provide essential information to improve accessibility, including making connection other health and human services.

A  Disability Liaison Officer:

  • Supports people with disability to access COVID-19 assessment, treatment and vaccination
  • Supports people with disability to access the health and human services they require
  • Provides disability-specific advice and support to the hospital

Team members

  • Allied Health with various lived experience of disability

Service delivery

  • Available during business hours Monday through Friday 8:30-4:30
  • Duration of support provided dependant on individual need
  • In person, telehealth and phone support available

Eligibility criteria

People with disability, their families and carers (formal and informal) and healthcare teams who:

  • are a patient of St Vincent’s Public Hospital (SVHM) OR
  • reside in the City of: Boroondara, Darebin, Melbourne or Yarra (SVHM catchment)
