GP Liaison

The GP Liaison Unit assists general practitioners (GPs) to navigate the services provided by St Vincent’s Hospital. The team also works to improve communication between the hospital and general practice.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for GPs

St Vincent’s Outpatient Clinics asks GPs to not refer non-urgent patients during the COVID-19 pandemic

During the current COVID-19 crisis, hospital resources are being directed away from non-urgent care to allow capacity for the predicted surge in severely sick patients. As a result, St Vincent’s Specialist Clinics will only be able to accept new referrals for patients with urgent conditions such as new cancers or other time-critical diagnoses.

Many Outpatients are already being managed through telehealth or telephone consultations to minimise risk of spread of the virus.

We ask GPs in these extraordinary times TO NOT REFER NON-URGENT PATIENTS they would normally send for an opinion or advice.

Please manage these patients as best you can until the surge is over and use excellent resources such as HealthPathways https://melbourne.healthpathways.org.au .

St Vincent’s is preparing to look at other ways to support GP care such as a GP Hotline for Specialist clinical advice.

St Vincent’s Fever Clinic for COVID-19 Testing:

St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (Fitzroy) has established a Fever Clinic for COVID-19 testing. It is a separate isolated consultation clinic, open 8am – 8pm every day.

Please first refer to the latest information for health services and general practitioners from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/health-services-and-general-practitioners-coronavirus-disease-covid-19. Note: This advice can change daily, so please check this site regularly.

The St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne Fever Clinic COVID-19 hotline can be contacted on 1800 444 511.
