Body Image Eating Disorders Treatment and Recovery Service (BETRS)
The Body Image and Eating Disorders Treatment and Recovery Services (BETRS) is a collaboration between the mental health programs of St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Austin Health to provide specialist adult eating disorder services for the North-Eastern and Hume regions of Victoria.
BETRS provides eating disorders services to people over the age of 18 with a suspected or diagnosed eating disorder who reside in the Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing service catchment areas of:
- Central East
- Outer East
- Inner Urban East
- North East
- Northern
- Goulbourn and Southern
- North Eastern Hume

The program is staffed by a specialist multidisciplinary team including a psychiatrist, psychiatry registrar, nurses, psychologists, dietitians, occupational therapist, social workers, lived experience peer support worker and medical administration.
What we do
There are a range of services offered at BETRS, which includes but not limited to:
- Triage of referrals
- Assessment of referrals
- Secondary consultations
- Brief intervention
- Treatment and management planning
- Day Patient Program
- Family interventions
- Peer support
BETRS accepts community referrals and facilitates the assessments for the Eating Disorders Unit (EDU) at Austin Health. Referrals assessed at BETRS appropriate for an admission to EDU will be forwarded and referred for waitlisting at Austin Health EDU.
Referrals for EDU for current hospitalised patients, please contact the unit directly for an inter-hospital referral.
