Admitting Rights

Admitting Rights

The right of a member of the senior medical staff to admit a patient under their own name, therefore taking responsibility for the care of that patient.


Consulting Rights

The right to attend inpatients or outpatients under the care of another member of the senior medical staff, at the invitation of that doctor.  This encompasses the right to offer advice and where appropriate, to participate in management. 


Diagnostic Reporting Rights

The right to report on diagnostic investigations performed on patients admitted under the care of another member of the senior medical staff.


On-Call Rights

The right to participate in an on-call receiving roster within the appropriate speciality. 


Operating Theatre Rights

The right to perform minor procedures in outpatient theatre on appropriately referred patients.


Private Patient Outpatient Rights

The right of a member of the senior medical staff to provide clinical services to privately referred outpatients, therefore taking responsibility for the care of patients attending the clinic.


Public Outpatient Rights

The right of a member of the senior medical staff to undertake independent consultation in a public outpatient clinic, therefore taking responsibility for the care of patients seen by the member in the clinic.


Research Rights

The right to interact with patients in the context of research.


Teaching Rights

The right to interact with patients in the context of teaching.

Department Usual Clinical Rights

Anaesthetics, Aged Psychiatry Unit (ECT) - Procedural Rights

The right to perform intravenous sedation and anaesthesia on appropriately referred patients undergoing ECT.  This encompasses the assessment care of the patient pre and post procedure.


Barbara Walker Pain Management Centre - Procedural/ Operating Theatre Rights

The right to open a theatre in the operating suite to operate and perform procedures on appropriately referred patients for pain management


Breast Screen - Breast Screen Assessment

The right to consult and perform breast imaging workup, needle biopsy procedures on Breast Screen Australia patients recalled for further assessment of a possible abnormality detected by screening mammography.


Correctional Health - Minor Procedural Rights

The right to perform minor procedures on appropriately referred patients.


Correctional Health - GP or Specialist Outpatient Rights

The right of a member of the senior medical staff to undertake independent consultation in a public outpatient clinic, therefore taking responsibility for the care of patients seen by the member in the clinic.


Dermatology - Minor Surgical Procedure Rights

The clinical scope as set out in the Australasian College of Dermatologists Training Handbook and Course Curriculum.  Examples would include cryosurgery, injection of local anaesthetic, fine wire diathermy, curettage and electrocautery, photodynamic therapy, intralesional injections, punch biopsy, incisional biopsy, elliptical excision, skin flap closure and skin grafts.


Dermatology - Clinical Procedural Rights

The right to investigate and manage skin diseases.  Clinical scope as set out in the Australasian College of Dermatologists Training Handbook and Course Curriculum.  Examples would include patch and photo patch testing, prick testing and phototherapy.


Hospital In The Home - Consulting, Medical Assessment and Treatment Rights

The right to consult in rooms, or at patients home, and provide medical assessment, and treatment and to contribute to the coordination of health services as necessary to Hospital in the Home patients of SVHM in accordance with the Health Services established treatment guidelines. This includes the right to ongoing assessment, document referral and plan of care for HITH patients, and where appropriate, to participate in management. 


Hospital In The Home - Out Of Hours Rights

The right to specify arrangements for emergency cover after hours.

Special Clinical Rights

Clinical Strategic Advice Rights

The right to provide clinical strategic advice within the pre-hospital arena in the event of a mass casualty.


Clinical Care Rights

The right to provide advanced clinical care to casualties.


Field Emergency Medical Officer Program (FEMO) - Function and Responsibilities Rights

The right in the event of a mass casualty incident to perform a range of Operational and Strategic Functions and responsibilities as outlined in the FEMO position description.
