About Our Program

Your Internship at St Vincent's Hospital is based around 5 rotations both on site at SVHM Fitzroy Campus and at our Secondment Hospitals. Further information can be found in the rotations section. All Interns must satisfactorily complete at least 47 weeks equivalent full-time experience in supervised clinical practice.

The new National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training (NFPMT) will be implemented nationally from 2024. This framework is a two-year program that is designed to support and strengthen the learning experiences of prevocational medical trainees.

Each rotation available at St Vincent's will offer varying clinical experiences and foundational skills that are essential for your future practice.

You are allocated two weeks of annual leave throughout the year, and a further three weeks at the completion of Internship before commencing your PGY2 year.

Orientation

Your internship will begin with a comprehensive and compulsory three-day Orientation. This program is a combination of interactive lectures and practical upskilling sessions (including cannulation and basic life support amongst others), as well as a full Shadow Shift with a near-peer to support you.

Orientation will begin the week commencing Wednesday 10th January 2024.

Education

St Vincent's Hospital provides a robust Intern Education program, with weekly education sessions tailor-made for interns, including practical sessions in our state-of-the-art simulation lab, suturing and small tutorial group work. Each term there is also a dedicated end of term feedback session to reflect on your completed term.

Committees and Involvement

We encourage all interns to take an active role in hospital governance through the JMS Reference Group, the JMS Education Committee or being a St Vincent's Hospital Health Service Representative at JMO Victoria. Your experience and contributions are highly appreciated.
