Education and Training activities

The VDDS aims to expand the knowledge base on which interventions are made. The VDDS develops and delivers education and training for staff, carer's and family related to the assessment, treatment and management of consumers assessed by the service.

Training is targeted toward staff employed within the 21 Area Mental Health Services.

The range of topics include:

  • General introduction  to the service and dual disability
  • Role specific training
  • Profession specific training
  • Disorder specific training

VDDS Training workshop calendar 2019

Workshop Eligibility

Staff working in Victorian Specialist Mental Health services only (Including CAMHS, CYMHS, Adult and Aged services) only. All these workshop’s will employ a variety of learning strategies including lectures, exercises and discussions based on case examples and attendees will be expected to actively contribute and participate. Dual Disability Modules

In conjunction with the Office of Professional Practice, the VDDS have developed an e-learning resource on mental health. This aims to provide the carers of people with an intellectual disability with information and the opportunity to increase their skills in the area of dual disability.

VDDS Training workshop calendar 2018-Training closed

In 2018 the VDDS will deliver 5 workshops twice; round 1 and round 2. Round 1 registration close date is Thursday 25th January 2018 and round 2 close date is Thursday 22nd June 2018. Please note that all sessions fill up within weeks of advertising so we would encourage staff to register as soon as possible to secure a place. These workshops are only eligible to  staff working in Victorian Specialist Mental Health services including CAMHS,CYMHS, Adult and Aged services. The sessions are identical to those delivered in 2017.

Mind Brain and Behaviour Workshops 2018-training closed

ELIGIBILITY 
These workshops are for Disability staff working in the  Northern or Western metropolitan LGA only  from Disability Services, DAS, Youth and Adult Justice, Complex Client Teams, Information and Support, DISA, Residential Services, Vacancy Management and Individual and Family Support Programs, LAC and NDIS . 
These workshops aim to provide information about mental health problems in people with intellectual disability. They will assist participants in recognising mental health problems in people with intellectual disability and how to access the services available in Victoria.
