Major milestone for Brenan Place
Construction on Brenan Place has reached a major building milestone with structural completion celebrated earlier this week.
For St Vincent’s, this building is a great step forward in transforming our Fitzroy campus into a space that better serves our people, our purpose and our patients.
“Together with the Fitzroy Private Hospital Tower and the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery developments, Brenan Place is a key element to realising our vision and our ambition for the St Vincent’s Fitzroy Health and Innovation Precinct,” said St Hospital Melbourne’s Chief Executive Nicole Tweddle.
This project plays an integral part in supporting a masterplan that is underway that will help guide the development of future physical infrastructure across the precinct, enabling us to deliver world-class healthcare, research, and education.
Jointly developed by property fund manager ISPT and superannuation fund Hesta under a 50-year leasehold acquired from St Vincent’s Health Australia, the 12,096sqm commercial building has been constructed by Hansen Yucken and designed by architect Bates Smart. When complete, St Vincent’s Health Australia will be an anchor tenant occupying 40 percent of the building.
St Vincent’s will lease five floors in the 12-storey building to support its work in research, as well provide us with additional administrative office space. Additionally, the new premises will house consulting suites for visiting medical officers. This move will enable us to grow our service capability to our patients across our Private and Public hospitals in Fitzroy.

Preserving the past
Brenan Place is a meaningful part of our St Vincent’s footprint. It was originally part of SVHM’s Sciences Building constructed in 1889. The heritage-listed hall has been restored and takes on a new lease in Brenan Place. This space will eventually form the main lobby, complete with a business lounge and an event area.
The building, which is expected to be completed in 2026, will adjoin the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery and our Fitzroy Hospital precinct, enabling seamless movement and collaboration across the spaces.
