St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne named Premier’s Large Health Service of the Year for 2025

Last night, at the 2025 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards, St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne won the Premier's Large Health Service of the Year.

The Victorian Public Healthcare Awards celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of our healthcare workers, public health services and health volunteers across Victoria.

This is the highest recognition a health service can receive in Victoria, acknowledging outstanding leadership and excellence in public healthcare. It is because of the more than 7,000 extraordinary people across SVHM - and their incredible skill, dedication and compassion that we have been recognised in this way.

Our submission highlighted many examples of clinical excellence and efficiency, effective partnerships and collaborations, work to deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time, initiatives to improve health outcomes for vulnerable population groups – and so much more!

Congratulations also go to two other projects who were finalists at the Awards:

The Better Health and Housing Program, which was a finalist for Excellence in values-based healthcare. The BHHP aims to break the cycle of chronic homelessness and poor health. Delivered through a cross-sector partnership, it uses co-designed care plans, peer support workers and a value-based, data-driven approach to ensure person-centred, inclusive and culturally safe care.

The Minimum Category Three triage for First Nations patients in the ED project, which was a finalist for Excellence in Aboriginal health and wellbeing. By rearranging our resources and processes, this policy is positively contributing towards more equitable healthcare and better outcomes for First Nations patients, without sacrificing urgent care in other areas.

This is a collective achievement that wouldn’t have been possible without unwavering dedication to of our people to our patients, residents, clients and communities.
