Experts urgent message to GPs over Hep C treatment

Australia’s leading experts on hepatitis C have urged GPs to continue prescribing antivirals to hepatitis C patients.

The experts rejected as flawed, new research suggesting the latest life-saving drugs for hepatitis C do not save lives.

Prof Alex Thompson, chair of the Australian Liver Association (Gastroenterological Society of Australia) says the antiviral treatment is curing Hep C in Australia.

Prof Thompson says we are on track to become one of the first countries in the world to wipe out Hep C as a public health threat – but only if treatment rates remain high.
