LGBTQIA+ Peer Navigator

LGBTQIA+ Peer Navigator

SVHM is inclusive, affirmative, and responsive to the needs of LGBTQIA+ identifying staff, consumers, patients, carers, families and chosen families and to those identifying broadly as sexually and gender diverse.

The LGBTQIA+ Peer Navigator draws on their lived experience and expertise to provide direct peer support and navigation to Rainbow communities accessing healthcare at SVHM. The role leads and contributes to various activities aimed at building LGBTQIA+ safety and responsiveness across SVHM.

The LGBTQIA+ Peer Navigator can provide:

  • Peer support – for patients, consumers, carers, families, supporters and staff
  • Support and navigation for LGBTQIA+ people accessing our services
  • Community links

The LGBTQIA+ Peer Navigator functions in various parts of SVHM including (but not limited to) the emergency department, acute services, sub-acute services, outpatient services and all areas of mental health. They work collaboratively with teams and programs across St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne to promote safe and responsive service for Rainbow communities accessing health care.
