Who should get tested?
If you have any of the symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, you should seek advice and get tested.
Elective Surgery patients are required to be tested prior to surgery and will be notified by the elective surgery team.
The St Vincent's Fever Clinic does not offer 'Fit to Fly" COVID testing for commercial airline flights. If required, please see your General Practitioner for appropriate testing and documentation.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
The symptoms to watch out for are:
- Chills or sweats
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Runny nose
- Loss of sense of smell or taste
In certain circumstances headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may also be considered.

Where is the St Vincent's Fever Clinic located?
The Fever Clinic is located opposite our emergency department. Princes Street, off Nicholson Street, Fitzroy 3065.

How long will my results take?
Pathology results can take up to 72 hours. You will be notified via SMS or phone call. If you have not received your results within 72 hours, please call our advice line on 1800 444 511. The St Vincent’s COVID-19 Advice Line is open from 8am-4.30pm Monday to Sunday.
If you have had your swab taken at a different clinic, please call that clinic directly.
How long will I need to wait?
Wait times are often hard to predict. All fever clinic staff are working as efficiently as possible.
Do I need to isolate?
All symptomatic patients being tested for COVID-19 should home isolate, where appropriate, until test results are available.
Staff in Fever Clinic will provide specific instructions on whether you need to isolate or not.
Do you test children in the Fever Clinic?
St Vincent’s Fever Clinic will only test children over 12 years old. Please refer to the Department of Health and Human Services website for detailed information on children testing locations.
Does the fever clinic provide a medical certificate?
Yes. Please remember ask for a medical certificate when presenting to the Fever Clinic.
The medical certificate will cover your absence until you receive your results.
