Research Governance Unit 

The Research Governance Unit facilitates the framework through which St Vincent’s Hospital is accountable for the scientific quality, ethical acceptability, legal responsibility and safety of the research conducted under our auspices. Good research governance is an essential component for the conduction of responsible research, promotes best practice and accountability and reduces adverse incidents, thus reducing the likelihood of poor performance and research misconduct.

Research governance applies to all individuals involved in research, and is about responsibility and managing risk.

The Research Governance Unit provides a strong framework at St Vincent’s Hospital through the management of:

Ethics Applications and the Human Research Ethics Committee

Governance Applications for Ethically Approved Multisite Clinical Trials

Animal Research Applications and the Animal Ethics Committee 

Genetically Modified Organisms and the Institutional Biosafety Committee

Grant Funding and the Management of Funding Applications
