Poster preparation guidelines:

  • Posters must be suitable for a general audience
  • The available space for each poster is limited to 120cm (4 feet) high by 90cm (3 feet) wide. Due to space restrictions, no oversize posters will be accepted. This includes posters already prepared for other meetings.
  • Poster content must be large enough to be viewed from a distance of 90 cm (3 feet).
  • The St Vincent’s poster template should be used, unless a poster has been previously prepared.
  • Each poster must have a top label indicating the title of the paper, the names of the author/s and their affiliation. The size of the characters must be at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) high.
  • Drawings should be simple with bold lines.

Printing posters

STV Library printer

The Carl de Gruchy Library offers a colour poster printing service. Please note that bookings are essential and remote printing from outside the library is not available. All bookings must be made on 9288 2540.

The following charges will be levied: A0 - $24 per sheet, A1 or A2 - $12 per sheet

A cost authorisation form needs to be completed by a cost centre manager prior to any printing, unless paying in cash at the time of printing. The booking form will be provided when a booking is made. Alternatively, the booking form and a helpsheet can be found at the Library department site :

Tips for printing posters in the Library:

  1. We prefer to print documents as pdf files. Word and PowerPoint documents can be converted to pdf using the ‘Save As’ function.
  2. Please bring your document in on a memory stick, or provide to the Library as an email attachment. You cannot print from your own login.
  3. If using a specific page size, please select a standard page size such as A4 - the poster can easily be scaled up to A1 or A0 from a standard page size. Custom page sizes make scaling up difficult.
  4. Avoid placing text or graphics right on the edge of the page - when printed these may be cut off. Please leave a decent margin.
  5. Avoid large areas of deeply saturated colour. This may look good on the computer screen but will not look good printed as the printer cannot reproduce deep tones well. Dark text on white or light-coloured backgrounds produces a good print.
