Scientific categories of proposals
Each proposal must be submitted to a specific grant competition. In addition, all applicants in every competition are asked to classify their proposals according to four broad categories of scientific inquiry:
(1) social and behavioural research
(2) clinical investigations
(3) basic biology
(4) adaptive technology.
During second-level review, these categories help the Alzheimer’s Association Medical and Scientific Advisory Council ensure a balanced, well-distributed award portfolio.

Travel Grants
The Heart Foundation offers funding to support researchers working in the area of cardiovascular disease and related disorders. Travel grants are available to support Australian researchers travelling to present their cardiovascular research at a conference overseas. They are also available to Indigenous health researchers travelling to present their research in Australia.

Heart Foundation Fellowships
The Heart Foundation is offering funding to support researchers working in the area of cardiovascular disease and related disorders.
Applications for all fellowships close at 5pm on Monday12 April 2010. RGU closing date 5 April 2010.
Postdoctoral Fellowships (Biomedical, Clinical, Public Health)
These fellowships are available to medical and science graduates who have completed an MD or PhD award within the last 5 years and who are seeking support to become independent researchers. Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable for up to 2 years. They may be full or part-time.
Overseas Research Fellowships
Overseas Research Fellowships are available to medical and science graduates who have completed a PhD or MD award within the last 24 months.
Career Development Fellowship
The purpose of the Career Development Fellowship is to develop the career of Australian citizens or permanent residents who are 2-12 years postdoctoral (2-7 and 7-12 years).
These awards are the most prestigious offered by the program. Career Development Fellowships are tenable for 4 years. They may be full or part time.

RGMS submission instructions:
IMPORTANT: Once the certification process is started (i.e. one CI has certified the application) the application must be ‘rejected’ by either the CIA or RAO in order to ‘unlock’ the application for editing. Therefore, to facilitate editing the application following the Research Governance review, please do not the commence certification process until the application is ready for ‘locking’ and final submission to NHMRC.
STV Preliminary review and final RAO certification procedure:
- The CIA is requested to email research.ethics@svhm.org.au seeking RAO preliminary review by the initial RGU closing date (noted below). Dr Trixie Shinkel or Jane Carolan will review the application and return any comments within 3 working days.
- The CIA should then edit the application as required and commence seeking Chief Investigator certification.
- Once the certification process is completed by all Chief Investigators (including the CIA) RGU should be notified by the final RGU closing date (noted below) that RAO endorsement and certification is required.
