Writing an Application 

Please consult the guidelines when writing a new application. Applications must be written and printed using 'TierBase'.   

 

For assistance, please consult the following instructions: 

 

 

Types of Applications 

An application may be classifed as: 

  • New Scientific Application
  • New Breeding Application
  • Transfer of a GBNML to an SABC

 

New Scientific Application

All new applications should be submitted by the monthly submission closing date: 

 

Please ensure the following standard templates are used when writing a new application:

** These will need to be attached to your TierBase application. Researchers who do not include these attachments will be asked to include them as a condition of approval, resulting in a potential delay to the research. 

 

NB – Incomplete applications cannot be accepted and will be returned to the research team. 
       

Please ensure all signatures are included, most importantly: 

  • the Principal Investigator (on the TierBase application form),
  • the Head of Department (Module A) 
  • the Head of the Supporting Department – the BRC or EMSU (Module A).

 

New Breeding Application (GBNML)

All new breeding applications (Generate and Breed a New Mouse Line, GBNML) should be submitted by the submission closing date. 

 

Please ensure the correct symbols are used by consulting the Mutation Type / Gene Symbol List

Application to Generate and Breed a

New Mouse Line (GBNML)

1 original + 18 double sided copies

Transferring a GBNML to an SABC (Specified Animal Breeding Colony) 

All transfers of a GBNML to an SABC should be submitted by the submission closing date: 

 

A “Specified Animal” includes guinea pigs, rats, mice or rabbits (other than a rat, mouse or rabbit bred in the wild) and non-human primates. “Specified animals” held for stock maintenance and/or routine breeding (i.e. they are no longer being bred as part of a research project and the line is well phenotyped) should be transferred from a GBNML to an SABC. This transfer must be reviewed by the AEC.

Transfer of an Established Strain from Another Institution (SABC)

This transfer must be reviewed by the full AEC.

Please complete the following templates if you wish to transfer an established strain from another institution to STV:
