Abstract Submission Guidelines 

Research Week 2012 Abstract Submission Guidelines

  1. Abstract submissions will be received from Tuesday 3 April until Friday 18 May 2012.
  2. Abstracts must be submitted using the Abstract Registration Form
  3. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 5pm on Friday 18 May 2012.
  4. The text of the abstract body is limited to 1500 characters (including spaces).  
    • Please prepare your abstract in a separate document using the 'Word Count tool' to ensure that body text is not over the character limit.
    • Copy and paste the body text into the first box on the Abstract Registration Form.
    • If the text is over the limit, you will receive a message, and will need to edit the text.
    • Once the word count is correct, copy and paste the body text into the second box on the Abstract Registration Form.
    • NOTE: The Abstract Registration Form cannot be saved with your data included.
  5. Abstracts must include some results.
  6. The abstract should not include acronyms without providing the definition at the first mention of the term.
  7. Acronyms should not be used in the study title.
  8. Units of measurement and formatting should be the universal standard where appropriate
  9. The Presenting Author must be the first named Author on the Abstract.
  10. Abstracts that have successfully transmitted will receive acknowledgement of receipt.
  11. If you want to include non-keyboard characters (eg symbols, super/subscripts) in your abstract, submit your abstract in a word doc to research.week@svhm.org.au (subject field: 2012 Abstract Submission_Principal Researchers Name). Note: Any abstract that is emailed as a word doc will still need to be registered using the Abstract Registration Form above
Abstracts must include the following:

 

  • Background/introduction assist reader to understand background and objectives of the project
  • Aims/hypothesis are clearly described
  • Methods/design clear and concise
  • Results are presented clearly 
  • Conclusions/recommendations outlines implications of the project or compares results to other studies 
  • Relevance/significance to the field 

 

Abstracts will be scored as follows:

  • Background / aims ( /30)
  • Results / conclusions ( /30)
  • Significance / relevance to the field ( /40)
