The Centre 

The Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery will be located on the St Vincent's Fitzroy campus, a prominent gateway to the Melbourne CBD.

The Centre is not so much a research facility as it is the foundation and cornerstone of a culture of modern healthcare where current high quality service and innovation work seamlessly together.

It will house more than 500 researchers from our partner organisations, achieving an unprecedented level of collaboration.

By integrating research, clinical practice and education, the Centre will facilitate faster and higher impact research, delivering real health benefits to Australians.

We believe this model will attract and inspire a new generation of scientific pioneers, doctors, nurses, engineers and allied health professionals.

Students will benefit from retaining links with currently active researchers who are able to provide insight into upcoming as well as present medicine – a beyond the textbook opportunity that will promote a culture of innovative and evidence-based practice throughout the hospital.
 

Keeping our future doctors in touch with change in knowledge is a critical part of achieving a self-improving healthcare system.

Clinicians will have increased opportunity to discuss their challenges and needs with researchers, while researchers will have a closer link to the bedside, seeing their work influence clinical practice.
