What type of patient am I? 

St Vincent’s provides a wide variety of services in Fitzroy, Kew and other parts of Melbourne. If you are not sure where you need to go, the following questions may help. You can also contact our main reception on (03) 9288 2211.

 

 

 

Are you going to hospital for an operation or procedure?

If you are going to St Vincent’s for an operation or procedure – whether you are having a day procedure or staying overnight – you will be going to our main hospital at the Fitzroy campus (Inpatient Services Building). Please read the Inpatients information page for further details on what to expect.

 

Have you been referred by your GP to see a specialist?

St Vincent’s Specialist Clinics are located in the Daly Wing of our Fitzroy campus. Most clinics are on the ground floor, but a small number are also offered on Level 6 of the Daly Wing and within the Healy Wing, also at Fitzroy.

Are you having ongoing treatment for cancer?

Our Oncology Department is located on level 2 of the Healy Wing on Victoria Parade.

 

Do you need a blood test?

St Vincent’s performs blood tests at a number of pathology sites across metropolitan Melbourne. Click to find your nearest St Vincent's pathology service.

 

Are you having a scan, ultrasound, MRI or x-ray?

There are three locations on our Fitzroy campus where these procedures are performed. Please check your referral carefully to see if you need to go to the ground floor of the main hospital building (also referred to as the Inpatient Services Building), the basement of the Healy Wing on Victoria Parade or the Daly Wing, which is set back off Victoria Parade.

 

Are you having a mammogram or breast screen?

BreastScreen Victoria is located on Level 1 of the Healy Wing on Victoria Parade.

 

Are you having treatment for a kidney stone?

Laser treatment for kidney stones (also known as lithotripsy) is performed as a day procedure in the main hospital on our Fitzroy campus.

 

Are you having dialysis?

St Vincent’s has a dialysis centre on Gertrude Street Fitzroy and also offers some dialysis services in the main hospital building. Please check your referral carefully to see which site is relevant to you.

 

Are you having rehabilitation for an injury or to recover after an operation?

St Vincent’s has rehabilitation centres in our Bolte Wing on Nicholson Street Fitzroy, our St George’s site in Kew and also a Community Rehabilitation Centre in Northcote.

 

Do you need treatment for drug or alcohol dependence?

St Vincent’s offers a live-in rehabilitation program at Depaul House on Brunswick Street Fitzroy.

 

Do you need help managing a mental illness?

St Vincent’s has a range of mental health services including an acute inpatient service on Nicholson Street Fitzroy for patients who require admission for treatment, community mental health centres in Hawthorn and East Melbourne and a community residential service. Do you need palliative care?

St Vincent’s provides palliative care services at two locations. The majority of beds are located at Caritas Christi Hospice in Kew. A smaller number of beds are located in the main hospital on our Fitzroy campus. Please visit our palliative care services page.

 

Have you been referred for help with managing chronic pain?

The Barbara Walker Centre for Pain Management is located on level 1 of the Daly Wing, set back from Victoria Parade, Fitzroy.

 

Does your loved one require aged care?

St Vincent's offers a number of aged care services, many based at St George's in Kew. These include an Aged Care Assessment Service, inpatient care, specialist clinics and an 'awaiting placement' unit for patients waiting for a place in a residential aged care facility.
