Fruit and forklifts will make way for glistening chandeliers, flying banners and music when Boston Kennedy presents Opera In The Market, one of Melbourne’s most highly anticipated philanthropic arts events, returns to the Queen Victoria Market on Monday, March 23 and Wednesday March 25, 2009. Now in its tenth year, Opera In The Market embarks on an exciting new partnership between Boston Kennedy and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, upon which the event’s proceeds will contribute to the hospital’s world-leading medical research.
Internationally renowned Soprano Yvonne Kenny, exciting young Australian Tenor James Egglestone, a 150-voice choir and 65-piece orchestra conducted by Benjamin Northey are among the stellar line-up performing classical, contemporary and operatic favourites during the two evenings of alfresco music, accompanied by fine food prepared by Epicure and Scotchman’s Hill wine in the Queen Victoria Market’s ‘K-Shed’. Director of St Vincent’s Hospital Foundation, David Jones, said St Vincent’s is honoured to have such a high calibre of performers assembled for a worthy cause. “St Vincent’s Hospital fosters world-leading teaching and research in a diverse range of adult clinical services, including acute medical and surgical services, medical diagnostics, rehabilitation, mental health, communality residential health and many other fields. All net proceeds from Opera In The Market 2009 will support exciting medical research projects at the hospital," said David Jones.
