placements for graduate nurses and offers postgraduate nursing
courses.
Undergraduate Training
Undergraduate
nursing students from the Australian Catholic University (ACU),
La Trobe, RMIT and Deakin Universities complete clinical rotations

Graduate
Program
Each
year, St. Vincent’s recruits around 100 graduate nurses through
the “ComputerMatch” system. Graduates come from a variety of
Victorian universities. Before students have to select their
preferred hospital, they can find out more about St. Vincent’s
at the Open Evening, that includes a tour of the modern in-patient
building that was opened in 1995. St. Vincent’s also staff a
stand at the annual Nurses Careers Expo.

Nursing
Re-entry and Refresher Courses
Return to Practice and Refresher Courses
St. Vincent's conducts a Return to Practice course for nurses
who are not currently registered and are seeking to renew their
registration under Division 1 with the Nurses Board of Victoria.
The course is conducted three times a year and consists of a
theory and clinical component.
St. George's Hospital provides opportunities for nurses who are
currently registered, but have not had sufficient and recent
nursing experience to participate in a refresher program,
updating skills and clinical competence.
Participants of such courses are supernumerary and provides the
opportunity to re-enter the nursing profession with medical and
surgical nursing experience.

Postgraduate
Diploma in Advanced Clinical Nursing
St.
Vincent's Hospital Melbourne offers registered nurses the opportunity
to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Nursing.
The course gives students the chance to gain comprehensive theoretical
knowledge combined with clinical exposure in a state-of-the-art
major teaching hospital.
The
course that is run in conjunction with the University of Melbourne
School of Postgraduate Nursing.
The
Diploma is a fee paying course and St. Vincent's Hospital offers
fee scholarships in a number of the streams. The hospital also
provides generous paid study leave.
