St. Vincent's Mental Health

Training

St. Vincent's Mental Health provides teaching and clinical affiliations for undergraduate and postgraduate students in medicine, nursing, social work, occupational therapy and psychology.

 

University of Melbourne Department of Psychiatry Academic Unit

St. Vincent's Mental Health is affiliated with The University of Melbourne Department of Psychiatry and designated senior staff have conjoint appointments with the service and the Department of Psychiatry. A WHO Collaborating Centre in Research and Training in Mental Health

The teaching, training and research activities of St. Vincent’s Hospital, and The University of Melbourne, Department of Psychiatry have resulted in St. Vincent's Adult Mental Health Services being designated as a site for collaboration in the Australian Multi-site WHO Collaborating Centre in Research and Training in Mental Health and Substance Dependence. Asia Australia Mental health

"Strengthening mental health through collaboration in the Asia-Pacific"

St. Vincent's Mental Health is a foundation partner of Asia Australia Mental Health, together with the Department of Psychiatry, the School of Population Health, the Centre for International Mental Health and the Asialink Centre from the University of Melbourne.

 

Postgraduate Overseas Specialised Training Program (POST Program)

St. Vincent’s Mental Health, in collaboration with The University of Melbourne offers tailored clinical training placements for psychiatrists, nurses and allied health professionals from the Asia-Pacific region. The NEVIL Cluster

NEVIL - North East Victoria Into Learning- is a workforce development project operating across a cluster of six mental health services incorporating the mental health services of Austin Health, Eastern Health, Forensicare, Goulburn Valley Health, North East Hume & St.Vincent’s. Nevil's aim is to provide a range of professional development initiatives for mental health services staff, utilising a collaborative approach and through sharing of expertise.

Service Development and collaboration

St. Vincent’s Adult Mental Health actively promotes collaborative liaison with local Psychiatric Disability Rehabilitation and Support Service (PDRSS), local Divisions of General Practice, Primary Care Partnerships, local government, private psychiatrists and other area mental health services. It promotes ongoing service development through its strategic plan and quality improvement activities.
