There are many benefits to being a St. Vincent's Health employee.
The following is a guide to the various services and work conditions
offered to staff. Please contact
us if you have any other queries about working at the Hospital.
Salary Packaging
Salary packaging offers employees part of their wage in a form
other than cash-based remuneration. Subject to relevant taxation
laws, employees can receive certain authorised benefits, rather
than gross pay, which is normally subject to PAYE/PAYG tax.
St. Vincent's Health is able to offer this benefit because it operates
Public Benevolent Institutions, which are entitled to some exemptions
from paying Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT). FBT is a tax on non-cash
remuneration, including employer payments for items such as mortgages,
motor vehicles and school fees.
Hospital employees are generally offered up to $17,000 of their
remuneration in the form of benefits.
Professional
and Vocational Training
St. Vincent's Health provides an extensive professional development
program.
St. Vincent's Health is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
that offers high quality training. Our training is targeted at professional
development and offers a mix of innovative, established and accredited
programs that are evaluated externally. Our clinical school consistently
rates amongst Australia's best.
Support Team Action Response (STAR)
Assisting St. Vincent's staff to deal with stress and trauma in
the workplace.
Any incident can affect a worker - it does not have to be a major
disaster. Often it is the combination of accumulated stress and
the incident that causes an unusually strong emotional response.
Critical incidents are usually unexpected and may involve a threat
to life or welfare. Increasing demands upon skills and resources,
threats to safety, contact with body fluids, or traumatic and sudden
deaths are just a number of events that can affect us at work.
Most health professionals cope extremely well with critical stress.
However, sometimes incidents occur that cause us great stress. This
can be a very normal reaction to exceptional events.
It is how we deal with them that matters! Seeking help early may
prevent future problems. Talking has been proven to be effective
in reducing the intensity of feelings, putting thoughts into perspective,
regaining control over emotions and developing support networks.
If you feel you want to talk to someone who understands, who you
can trust and is familiar with managing workplace stress or demands,
then a STAR member may be able to help.
The STAR team consists of St. Vincent's Health staff selected from
all disciplines who are trained in Critical Incident Stress Management,
an internationally recognised psychological model. STARs ensure
that all staff receive support either as a group or one to one.
Support is confidential. STARs operate on a voluntary basis and
are skilled at listening in confidence.
