Karen Dwyer

Dr Karen Dwyer is a nephrologist and researcher at St Vincent’s. Her energy is legendary – she manages to combine a heavy research schedule and clinical workload with a daily commute from Geelong. She also competes in marathons and is a mother to three children under the age of six.

When Karen’s not working with dialysis patients, she is overseeing a team of research assistants, PhD students and post doctorates, all focused on research that seeks to improve the success rate of organ transplants.

Karen says maintaining contact with patients through her role at St Vincent’s dialysis centre keeps her motivated. “It puts everything into perspective and makes sure I’m focusing on meeting the most pressing needs with my research. I want to create solutions that can have a real impact.”
