Salary packaging

St Vincent’s in conjunction with Maxxia provides a series of arrangements that allow employees to use some of their income prior to tax to pay for benefits, thereby reducing the overall amount of tax payable and increasing the net value of income earned. Subject to relevant taxation laws, employees can receive certain authorised benefits, rather than gross pay, which is normally subject to PAYE/PAYG tax. St Vincent's is able to offer this benefit because it operates as a Public Benevolent Institution which is entitled to some exemptions from paying Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT). FBT is a tax on non-cash remuneration, including employer payments for items such as mortgages, motor vehicles and school fees. Hospital employees are generally offered up to $17,000 of their remuneration in the form of benefits. It also includes Meals and Entertainment, Novated Leasing, Venue Hire and Insurance.
