Take the first step - choose the best place to start your career...
The Graduate Mental Health Nursing Program is
conducted over 52 weeks. There are five graduate
positions available and the course commences in the
first academic semester (February). During the
graduate year, candidates will complete study
blocks, assignments and assessments. Upon successful
completion of the graduate year, the nurse is
eligible to apply for credit of two units towards
the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing (Mental
Health) at Melbourne University and three units at
RMIT. Post Graduate study in most circumstances will
be supported by the organisation and further
scholarships are also available.
St Vincent’s Mental Health Service
provides a supportive learning environment in which
optimal learning may occur throughout a variety of
clinical placements. Each participant is allocated a
preceptor to facilitate and support work-based
learning in each clinical setting. A collaborative
approach to identifying learning needs promotes a
learning dynamic that is relevant to the learner,
the venue and the organisation as a whole.
Clinical supervision from the nurse
development team is a feature of the program. In
addition, St Vincent’s Mental Health offers an
active academic training calendar including
professional journal clubs, seminars, reflective
discussion groups and lectures.
