Motivate Your Mind...Enrol in Postgraduate Education...

Our
Philosophy
The St Vincent's Musculoskeletal Care Centre
provides a supportive and friendly learning
environment whereby postgraduate nursing
students are mentored and encouraged to develop
specialist knowledge and skills. In an
environment which facilitates multidisciplinary
teamwork, the Orthopeadics Course offers
clinical experience and education in the areas
of anatomy & physiology, musculoskeletal
disorders and management, pain management and
orthopaedic oncology. During the Orthopaedics
Course clinical support is maintained throughout
the year by our experienced Orthopaedics nursing
staff.
The
Musculoskeletal Care Centre
The Musculoskeletal Unit is a 38 bed
surgical ward and major tertiary referral
centre. The unit cares for patients requiring
joint replacements, limb reconstruction, repair
of fractures and also specialises in orthopaedic
oncology.
The
Orthopaedic Course
The Orthopaedic certificate course is offered
over 1 year full time commencing in March. The
course consists of 4 subjects; 2 subjects are
offered online with Australian Catholic
University; the remaining 2 subjects are
delivered on site at St Vincent's by experienced
medical, nursing and allied health staff.
Students are required to attend lectures on site
at St Vincent’s 3 hours per week for a total of
24 weeks. A feature of the program is ‘Vincent’
– the human simulator; students have the
opportunity to experience one session each
semester in the simulator centre thereby
enhancing their overall clinical experience. At
the completion of the course the student will be
expected to be proficient in all areas of
orthopadic nursing.
