Motivate Your Mind...Enrol in Postgraduate Education...

Our
Philosophy
The St Vincent's Emergency Care Centre fosters a
supportive and friendly, learning environment
whereby postgraduate nursing students are
mentored and encouraged to develop specialist
knowledge and skills. In an environment, which
facilitates multidisciplinary teamwork, the
Emergency Course offers clinical experience and
education in the areas of resuscitation, triage,
acute medical and surgical care and major and
minor trauma care. During the Emergency Course
clinical support is maintained throughout the
year providing regular shifts with clinical
educators who have extensive emergency clinical
and teaching experience to aid in facilitating
the transition to the high acuity areas.
The
Emergency Care Centre
St Vincent’s Emergency Department is a 40 bay
department including, 15 observational beds, 16
general cubicles, with monitoring capabilities,
a behavioral assessment room and a fast track
area. The St Vincent’s Emergency Care
Centre sees a large variety of adult patients
ranging from complex medical and surgical
presentations to simple first aid. The hospital
also has an extensive mental health program.
The
Emergency Course
The current diploma course comprises 8 subjects
and may be taken over 1 year full time
commencing in February, or 1.5 years part time
commencing in July. Some students find
spreading the academic load over 3 semesters an
advantage while others prefer to complete the
entire program in one academic year.
This Stream offers clinical
experience and education in resuscitation,
triage, acute medical, surgical, major and minor
trauma care. At the completion of the
course the student will be expected to be
proficient in all areas of the emergency care
centre, including triage, team leader in the
resuscitation room, and all cubicle areas.
